Jack Herrera

Jack Herrera

Conference Speaker for the Gandhi-King Global Initiative (GKGI) Conference: The Uplift of All: Gandhi, King, and the Global Struggle for Freedom and Justice; October 11-13, 2019

Jack Herrera is an independent reporter covering immigration, refugee issues, and human rights. Currently, his reporting focuses on forced migration out of Central America: In December of 2018, he embedded with Honduran members of one of the so-called migrant “caravans” in Tijuana as they attempted to cross the border. However, for Herrera, bearing witness is often as much conceptual as it is practical: He’s interested in the kinds of violence and repression that go seen but misunderstood, such as gender-based violence in Central America and the maltreatment of trans women in ICE detention. Herrera’s work has appeared in The Nation, Pacific Standard, CityLab, and USA TODAY. He lives in San Francisco, and will return to Tijuana in October on assignment for Politico Magazine. For more information on Jack Herrera, click here.
