Dear Rev. King:

I am delighted to get your letter and to know that you are deeply involved in your work as the minister of the historic Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

I am sorry that I cannot accept your invitation for July, 1956 because, according to my present schedule, I will be in California.

Mrs. Thurman asked me to send you her special greetings and to say that her hopes are very high for the kind of future which your ability and equipment will indicate.

Please know how sorry I am that I cannot be with you.

Sincerely yours,
Howard Thurman
Dean
