King’s father informs him that he will be unable to attend an SCLC administrative committee meeting in Montgomery on 2 April.1

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 454 Dexter Avenue Montgomery 4, Alabama

Dear M. L.:

I very much regret that prior to receiving your letter on yesterday informing me of the forth-coming meeting in Montgomery, I had announced the board meeting of the Atlanta Baptist Association. You know then that I cannot make the Montgomery meeting, as much as I would like to.

My schedule follows:

Departing for Detroit—March 30th. . .
Will address the Baptist Ministers’ Conference in an appeal for Southern Christian Leadership Conf., on March 31.
Returning to Atlanta—Wednesday, April 1
Atlanta Association board meeting—Thursday—April 2

You already know that you can count on me to assist in anyway that I can. Sorry I cannot make the meeting.

[signed] Daddy
Sincerely,

1. For more on the meeting, see Reddick, Notes on SCLC Administrative Committee Meetings on 2 April and 3 April 1959, pp. 177-179 in this volume.
