Correspondents included David Livingston and Cleveland Robinson of District 65, RWDSU (20 October 1960), the Emergency Committee for the Southern Freedom Struggle (20 October 1960), Carl and Anne Braden (24 October 1960), and L. C. and Daisy Bates (27 October 1960). In addition, SNCC officials Marion Barry and Ed King, and NAACP executive secretary Roy Wilkins urged individuals and organizations to write letters and send protest telegrams to Atlanta mayor William Hartsfield (Barry and King to Fellow students, 20 October 1960, and Wilkins to NAACP branch officers, 21 October 1960).
