In partnership with the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) and funded by a Teaching American History grant, the Liberation Curriculum conducted professional development for middle and high school teachers enrolled in "Words That Made America" (WTMA). Over three years, teachers participated in workshops, lesson study and a field trip to iconic sites of the civil rights movement. During their travels, teachers met many of the movement's foot soldiers and collected resources to share with their students. The three-year partnership resulted in the transformation of classroom curriculum for the participating teachers. The project was followed by a series of Meet the Historians workshops to deepen the historical inquiry.
