King leaves Louisville for Frankfort, where he delivers “Facing the Challenge of a New Age” at the graduation ceremony of Kentucky State College.
King flies to Kansas City where he is interviewed by local reporters at the Pickwick Hotel. At St. Stephen Baptist Church King delivers “Progress in the Area of Race Relations” at an NAACP fund raiser. Following the speech King meets with a group of local ministers at the church.
At the Mason Temple in Memphis, King addresses a freedom rally on behalf of several black candidates for local office.
Following a speech at Minnesota State Pastors Conference in St. Paul, King departs for a National Baptist Convention meeting in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
King then attends a reception at the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, a co-sponsor of the visit. He later meets with India’s vice president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and attends a reception at the Quaker Centre. In the evening, King has dinner with Indian prime minister Jawarharlal Nehru at the Teen Murti Bhavan, Nehru’s residence.
King later attends dinner at the Sheraton Hotel and preaches at Philadelphia’s Vine Memorial Baptist Church.
At Philadelphia’s National Freedom Day observance, King addresses the audience and lays a wreath at the Liberty Bell.
At Beaver College in Glenside, King receives the Anderson Memorial Award from the Berean Institute.
King then travels to Nashville for a series of speaking engagements.
