East Palo Alto Honors King Institute Director

On January 17 2017, the city of East Palo Alto awarded Dr. Clayborne Carson, King Institute Director and Stanford’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Centennial Professor of History, with a Proclamation in recognition for his contributions to the nation. Dr. Carson has dedicated his life to studying the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the peace and social justice movements King inspired.

Mayor Larry J. Moody and the City Council bestowed Dr. Carson with the Proclamation in recognition of his work as scholar, community activist, and educator. Dr. Carson is widely known in the San Francisco Bay Area for establishing the King Institute and for his lifelong dedication to preserving and increasing public awareness of Dr. King’s philosophies of nonviolence.
